Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017
What’s it about?
Showstopper! is a Fringe favourite and after my first experience of them last year, when they went down a storm, I knew I was in for a treat. The challenge for the cast this year was to create a musical called Buy or Die!! set during a Black Friday sale in Leamington Spa, in the style of Hamilton, Legally Blonde, Oliver! and Pricilla, Queen of the Desert. And so a Brummy love story was born, between two shop assistants and two shoppers in Currys.
What makes it good?
The fact that they can do this is a testament to their genius theatrical and musical ability. There is virtually no sign that this is not a pre-written and rehearsed performance and every show is completely different.
The best bits
The hilariously over-exaggerated Brummie accent • The song titles, including Grab a Deal, Currying Favour and Open the Doors (to Curry’s).
