Thrill Me: The Leopold and Loeb Story

Edinburgh Fringe Festival, 2017

What’s it about?

1920s Chicago law students Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold spiral from petty crime to the murder of an innocent child. Richard wants the thrill of killing, Nathan wants the thrill of being with Richard. This musical drama tells the story of their horrific crime and motives for murder through flashbacks.

What’s good about it?

The entire story was compelling viewing throughout, seeming to keep the audience on an everlasting cliffhanger of who was really one step ahead, which of the two was more depraved. The tension created by Ellis Dackombe (Richard) and Harry Downes (Nathan) as they attempt to get what they want from each other without leaving themselves vulnerable.

The best bits

The big reveal when we discover the relationship dynamics aren’t what they seemed at first • The actors’ pitch perfect vocal ability.
